Health Economist

Position Overview

Conduct various health economic and outcomes research studies to assess the value of novel life sciences products. Projects to include literature reviews, development of economic models (e.g., cost-effectiveness, budget impact), database analyses and other consulting services. Provide support for scientific and financial project management, client interactions, and collaborative team work on multiple projects.

The successful candidate will be someone with high technical competency and strong communication and problem-solving skills who thrives in a fast-paced, growing environment.  This is an entry-level position with the opportunity to create a career path based on interest and performance.

Primary Responsibilities: (others may be assigned)

  • Technical responsibilities, conducted under direction of project leaders:
    • Conduct literature reviews to support HEOR and market access projects (e.g. HTA and payer reviews) and to populate economic models
    • Design and program health economic models, including internal, early-stage models and cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses for external submission; program the models using Microsoft Excel, often using additional applications such as VBA or other specialized software
    • Conduct econometric and statistical analyses (SAS, STATA, R)
    • Support development of scientific and training resources
  • Draft project deliverables (including models, technical reports, and other presentation materials); draft conference and peer-review publications
  • Collaborate on project management, including monitoring timelines, deliverables, and expenses for multiple projects
  • Support business development activities as needed
  • Train and mentor junior staff; build networks within and outside the company
  • Limited travel may be required

Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD or Master’s degree in health economics, epidemiology, public health, or public policy with demonstrated experience with outcomes research and economic models
  • Fluency in English both orally and in writing, with excellent communication skills, and the ability to clearly present solutions to clinical and pharmaceutical clients
  • Ability to take action to achieve goals and targets
  • Strong organization skills; demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment of peers and leaders, and other colleagues across offices and departments in a diverse work environment
  • Strong analytic and quantitative skills, with solid understanding of basic statistics
  • Practical knowledge of the US healthcare system, the pharmaceutical industry, general research project design and conduct
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

Epidemiologist

Position Overview

  • Manage and conduct research in the nutrition, pharmaceutical, and occupational and environmental exposure fields in our Ann Arbor, Michigan or Rockville, Maryland office
  • Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to evaluate client needs and provide evidence-based solutions to complex data questions

Primary Responsibilities: (others may be assigned)

  • Project design, conduct, and analysis
  • Outcomes reporting
  • Presentation of evidence synthesis
  • Data abstraction and preparation of data
  • Data analysis with assistance from a statistician
  • Conduct meta-analyses
  • Perform literature searches and reviews
  • Review and summarize materials for litigation support
  • Opportunities for manuscript writing, project management, and communication with clients dependent upon skills and experience

Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD or Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, health economics, public policy or related disciplines
  • Good written and verbal communication, ability to work independently, attention to detail, accuracy, and responsibility
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Candidates with research or litigation-related project management experience are encouraged to apply but such experience is not required
